I’m heeeeere! After years of wanting to start a food blog, I’ve finally got my act together. Welcome to my new (and improved/revamped) blog, guys! I’m so happy that you’ve stopped by. Hope ya’ll like my new space. 🌷🌼☀
Not only am I celebrating the launch of my new blog today, I’m ALSO celebrating my 3 year blog anniversary. Yep, hard to believe it’s been 3 years since I put up my very first blog post. It was May of 2014 when I was heading to the Deep South and I got this crazy idea that I should share my adventures while on the road. Turns out blogging was way more fun than I realized and I’ve been sharing my road trip adventures ever since. But since I do a heck of a lot more baking these days than travelling, I decided to change this blog into something a bit more food-focused.
I also celebrated turning another year
older wiser immature today. Is anyone else doing the whole denial thing about your birthday as you get older? You know you’re getting old when you’re rarely excited about your birthday (avoidance means you don’t age at all, right ladies?). I tell people I’m 25 and holding, but I have been using that for a while now so it’s getting a lot little far-fetched. But what birthdays ARE good for is delicious cupcakes (thanks friends for the yummy and very thoughtful treats) AND they’re the perfect excuse for a road trip.
While I’m not heading to Memphis or Nashville this year, my sweetie is taking me to Niagara this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited. We also decided to go away because his workplace is still closed for renovations and things are quiet on the work front for me as well. Perfect time for a little getaway!
But you never really don’t need an excuse to visit beautiful Niagara on the Lake. It’s absolutely stunning, especially in the spring.
Did I mention that this is HUGE wine country, too? That may or may have not have been a factor in my decision to suggest going there.
I’ve been to Niagara a couple of times before, but my last trip was nearly a decade ago so I figured it was time for another visit. Billy and I did stop by there last fall while driving home from Mackinac Island in Michigan but it was a really quick visit. We’re talking half a day which is not nearly long enough.
I might even bring a few barrels of wine home with us this time. Hurray!
If you haven’t been to NOTL, you need to go if you’re anywhere in the Southern Ontario area (even Toronto is fairly close).
It’s gorgeous and even if you’re not a huge wine fan, just go for the scenery alone.
So…about my food blog.
Since you probably wondering at this point how this is any different from my travel blog? hehe Don’t worry, my baking pics are coming. I’m just trying to gradually wheel you guys in and then ..BAM…a recipe!
I’ve been wanting to start a food blog for years but I just kept putting it off because there are SO many awesome food blogs out there these days and I figured I’d just be a teeny tiny blimp on the radar. Plus, I’m a self-taught baker, not a cook or trained pastry chef– so I figured I wasn’t even “qualified” to share my recipes. But everyone has a food blog nowadays so I figured it was about darn tootin’ time I joined the club.
When it comes down to it, though, I credit my wonderful Instagram community for encouraging and inspiring me to finally start a food blog. It all started when I shared my first pie creation on Instagram and suddenly I was networking with tons of amazing bakers, food bloggers, cooks and food artists. It was AWESOME! I love the food community and meeting so many fabulous bakers all the time.
I’m actually not a complete stranger to the food world (career-wise) either, since I did work in the restaurant biz for over a decade. It was mostly ‘front of house’ work (serving and bartending) but I also did a bit of kitchen prep work which I really enjoyed. So baking isn’t really that much of a stretch. But as soon as I started learning how to bake a pie, I was hooked.
Before I let you go, I want to share one of my recent pies that I made for Mother’s Day last weekend. I was really busy with pie orders, which was fabulous, and this was my favourite one of them all. It’s a baked Blueberry & Cherry pie with fresh blueberries thrown on top and some nice tulips to celebrate the start of our world-famous Tulip Festival, too.
You can never go wrong with fruit and flowers, right?
Have a great long weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to come back 😀
